Winter Car Care Guide for UK Drivers
Salt, grit and freezing mornings take a toll. Get your car winter-ready with this guide.
UK winters are hard on cars. Here is how to keep yours safe and protected.
Before winter
- Battery test — cold weather exposes weak batteries
- Tyres — check tread depth (3mm+ recommended for winter) and pressures
- Coolant and screenwash — correct concentration for freezing temperatures
- Wiper blades — replace if smearing
Protect the paint
Road salt is corrosive. A ceramic coating makes salt and grime much easier to rinse off, and PPF shields the front end from grit.
Through winter
- Rinse the underside and arches regularly
- Never pour hot water on a frozen windscreen
- Keep at least a quarter tank of fuel
